Dining out With The Y. M. C. A.

This evening after doing a bit of shopping we dropped by a crab shack to eat. The food was good, but with such prices it should have been more tasty.

While we were eating a female announced something inaudible would happen in two minutes. Then strobe lights began flashing and different color lights made circular motions. And the rock music started playing louder.

About 5 or 6 female employees got out in the middle of the floor where a spot light was aimed and they partly line danced, and partly rocked and roll… I am not sure they had any definite instructions on what to do – just “get out there and shake that thing!”

I saw one of the dancers was a hostess, a couple of waitresses, and a little short female cook (she had on a white apron).

Not only were their hearts not in it but they carried on conversations with their co-workers while they danced. And even one waitress who wasn’t dancing came near one of the dancers and talked to her while she was dancing.

I don’t blame them, my heart wouldn’t be in it either.

The table next to us an old couple was sitting. They left before the dancing started. When their waitress went by after they left to pick up the money she looked somewhat perturbed and showed a hand of change to our waitress. Our waitress looked sincerely hurt for her friend and said she was so sorry.

I think they carried on their conversation about lousy tipping while they were dancing.

I should have jumped in dancing too and give her some tips on tipping (tips on tipping – get it?). I read one time that a study showed that the waitress/waiter, if he/she makes direct eye contact with the person paying the bill the tip goes up. More so, if it is the opposite sex. And if you touch them, like pat them on the back or hold their arm to help them get situated the tip goes up even more, and again even more so, if it is the opposite sex.

I made sure we left a nice tip. We told her to always have an umbrella in her car. How is that for a tip? Joking, just joking. We left a polite moderate monetarily tip.

  1. Your politely moderate may be someone else's too much....LOL (or not enough)

Eddie, I think you should have hopped on the table and shaken your butt like a go-go guy...

  3. Steve,
You came close to what they really do! If it is your birthday they put a rubber crab on your head and put you on table standing to sing.
