Daddy

The above pictures are my Daddy, Edwin Tyson Hunter, Sr (1912-1988).

He was the most non pretentious and gentle man I have ver known. He never wished any one any harm. And he always wore a light blue or white shirt, black pants, and black socks and shoes. Anything else would be too phony for him. But he didn't mind others expressing themselves in their dress - it just wasn't his style.... as far as clothes, he had no style.

He also lived very humble. He never had a radio in his cars... thought it was a useless expense.

He was a good cartoonist.

He also was an excellent Santa Clause, he would call his nieces and nephews and put on a great Santa imatation, with hearty "ho-hos" and so on. He was very good at that, he put his heart into it.

He was good as telling stories to his nieces and nephews. He would tell them adventure stories of little boys (if they were little boys, or girls if they were little girls, etc) and put them up a river with a monster or somebody chasing them.. they would listen transfixed and cried tears when they were afraid and cried tears of happiness when they found an escape and the old meanie got his just do. He made up the stories as he went.

The day he died. He refused to go to the hospital so I came over and insisted he go. He walked on his own to my car and I took him. Several hours later he was dead.

Looks like he was a cool guy. Nearly the same age as my own Dad. They probably would have been friends. Was he a baseball fan by any chance????

  2. Steve,
    Thank you. That was nice.
No, of he and his seven brothers he was the only one that never thought of sports of any kind. The others lived and breathed sports, and one was even under consideration of being a pro baseball player.
However, in his later years, Daddy did keep up with Braves.

Just curious, mine was a Cardinals fan.

  4. Your father being a fan of the Cardinals may be why you have an enthusiasm for sports today.
And my father's lack of interest is probably why I am not.
