This is the Howell House in the Marietta. The date of the photograph is c1895. In 1864 it was the headquarters for a Yankee General during Sherman's siege of Kennesaw Mountain. Kennesaw Mountain is just up the same street about a 1.5 miles.
About 1957 and 1958 I had was just about at the Howell House every day. My friend, whoes father owned a big manufacturing company of underwear and socks, lived with his family in the house. In the back was big barn and a pretty little white ex-slave cabin. The slaves' cabin was our beer drinking hangout.
What I didn't know at the time but found out this year (2006), was in the early 1900s a member from a wealthy elite family of Marietta, Walter L. Sessions bought the house for he and his bride Alice Trammell, who was descended from the same Jacob Trammell as I am.
