Cooper Furnace Near Allatoona Dam

 This is/was Cooper Furnace. It is close to the foot of Allatoona Dam, maybe 300 or so feet away, near the side of the Etowah River. It has an interesting history, at one time a whole community lived around it, it was their livelihood.

But around 1957 or 58 it became an ego thing for us teenage boys to climb to the top. It is not hard as it looks, the rough stones jut outward, it is almost like climbing a steep staircase.
