EMERITUS
POSTED 10 YEARS AGO:
New Word for Today: EMERITUS. We have been hearing the word Emeritus often lately, concerning the Pope. Out of curiosity we looked up the word. Here is what we found on Wikipedia:
Emeritus (pron.: /ɨˈmɛrɨtəs/; plural emeriti; abbreviation emer.) is a post-positive adjective used to designate a retired professor, bishop, president, prime minister or other professional. It also refers to the post-retirement status of at least one pope. The female equivalent, emerita (/ɨˈmɛrɨtə/), is also sometimes used, but phrases such as professor emerita are not in proper usage according to Latin grammar rules.
In other words, if you are a big shot and stop working you are in a state of Emeritus. That is a much better word than what is called us working class people when we stop working or retire.. Words such as: Freeloaders, Entitlement suckers, disabled, bums, etc.
