Today my New-Word-A-Day is TORPOR.
On Facebook today a person said he/she saw a male hummingbird
by their hummingbird feeder laying very still, like asleep. The person gave him some water and he lapped
it up while still out cold. Then he woke
up, or became consciouss, and hopped up and flew away.
Someone commented that maybe the little bird was in a TORPOR
state. The person also said they use
less energy or metabolism when they are TORPORING.
We looked up this new word TORPOR. Google
told us it is a form of hibernation that put creatures and a trance like state,
like they can reserve their energy.
Hmmm! They have my
number.
