Shaye Cohn and Joe Stewart

My blogging buddy Joe Stewart (http://joeb-tallyho.blogspot.com)  and I share an enthusiasm for  the New Orleans street band TUBA SKINNY.  Although we are both  in our seventies, to eavesdrop on our communications about the band might remind you of two fourteen year old girls thrilled over the Beatles.

Well, you would be wrong!   that is not us.  We don't giggle and scream like a couple of 14 year old girls.  We are old men, we grunt.

Joe had an experience this past weekend that he considers a peak of life time experiences of running into top blues and other music artists in sort of an Forest Gump fashion.  He got to see Tuba Skinny in concert and the leader, which is Shaye Cohn, who is also the cornet player, came over and talked to him.  He said he rates it as high as he as when he got to talk to Bob Dylan in 1964.

Joe said Shaye was very friendly.

He was very excited having met Shaye and getting to see Tuba Skinny play in person.  I wrote and asked him did he mention to her that he does Tuba Skinny Youtube a lot of his blog Talley-Ho.com?   He hasn't answered me yet, I should have asked did he mention my name.

Shaye Cohn came out of a musician family.  Her grandfather Al Cohn played with Woody Herman and her father, Joe Cohn was a classical guitarist.

Shaye can plays mostly the cornet in the Tuba Skinny band but she also plays the piano and violin.
