The Right to Bear Arms

Lot of people quote part of the Second Amendment's "The Right to Bear Arms" a lot.  That is lifted out of a longer sentence which makes the right to bear arms confusing.

The whole sentence reads:

 "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

I think it suggests in order to have a well regulated militia the people should have the right to bear arms.  How many people that bear arms belong to the state militia?  In today's times a militia would be the state's National Guard.   So, do they belong to the National Guard or are they suppose to in order to keep and bear arms?

There is also a  law, Stand Your Ground Law,  in some states that lets you shoot someone dead if you feel threatened by that person.  Does that mean a poor student gets to shoot his demanding teacher, or visa versa?  I fear that law will be tested some day.

As it stands now, people have the right to keep and bear arms.  And apparently, it goes without saying, "Why keep and bear arms if you can't use them?"

So, you might get shot as an innocent person if you are in the  wrong place and the wrong time.  Think about all the people shot in theaters recently.

But remember, you also have rights.  If someone shoots at you, you certainly  have the right to DUCK!
