Last Sunday
night we went to Eddie's Attic in Decatur to hear Emi Sunshine sing.
Eddie's
Attic have what they call The Patio, it is a bar with tables where they serve
food and drinks. It is a place to hang
out before the doors to the concert hall open.
While we
were sitting in The Patio, rejecting the waitress's offers to get us something,
Anna said something like, "Look!
There is Emi Sunshine!"
I grabbed my
camera and she readily posed for my picture.
She was short. With such a voice
maybe I was expecting something bigger than life. She mentioned they just got in from
Florida.
I said,
"Florida? Where at in
Florida?"
She looked
helpless, She looked at her mother and asked her where in Florida. Her mother said "Stewart ".
Then,
another mother approached her and asked could she walk over to speak to her
daughter who was too timid or shy to come see her.
Emi said,
"Sure!" and she walked over to
the little girl.
I followed
with my camera.
After a few
pictures her mother said, "We have to go feed her now."
"Feed"
her? Interesting.
We thoroughly
enjoyed the concert. Although she was
polite and humble in The Patio area, she had the bull by the horns on stage,
and bossing the band members around, in a comical way.
She kept
looking at her "Diddy" who played the base some signs of some
kind. They spoke of "the
formula" . He mentioned that most
singing entertaining go a certain formula. You sing one, talk, sing two talk, and I don't
know how it goes after that. But he and
the drummer Bob (who is a relative) said they did not go by a formula, you get
what you see (or hear).
I don't
think that is entirely true. I think
they talk, joke, fuss, and whine, all in a jokingly way, between every song to
give the little star's vocal cords a rest.
She really works them out by yodeling, purring, long winded sounds,
changing vocal cords gears, and so on.
She is becoming an expert at making her voice make any sound she wants
it too, which must be stressful for her voice box muscles.
I also
noticed that she can focus herself completely if she wants to. She is in control, but still wants and need
guidance.
Strangely,
that same night, their van or bus was stolen, then involved in a wreck, and as of Monday morning
their vehicle was impounded with their
music instruments and they had to move on
I haven't heard an outcome on that yet.
