Today Is Sadie Hawkins Day, or Is It?

Somebody who thought they are somebody or a group of people thinking they are somebodys declared today as Sadie Hawkins Day.  

Sadie Hawkins is the day each year that in Dogpatch, U.S.A. the available females chase available bachelors for matrimony.  If they catch them and drag them over the finish line Marrying Sam will marry them and it is all legal.... or at least it was in LI'L ABNER comic strips.

However, why on this date every year?  I am not sure whoever picked this date had the authority.   When a reporter noticed  in the comics every year Sadie Hawkins Day was on a different day in November he asked creator Al Capp, what day was Sadie Hawkins Day, really?

Al Capp replied, "The day I choose for each year."
