Blowing In The Wind.
I bought some wind chimes at our local bird feed place. When we looked closer at it we decided its
chimes were of higher notes than we wanted.
We took them back, paid a difference for one with a deeper tone.
I hung it on the edge of carport, which is adjacent to the
deck and about the only opened air that we could place it and get the benefit of the music it
would make
.
It hardly made any tones at all. We figured the bars were of a heavier cast
pipe, so it was unlikely that they would
be blowing in the wing and sing in their deep tones.. One thing we figured, our carport and deck
are on the east side of the house, thus, blocking the constant west wind. But, there was enough of a natural breeze
to toss our big hanging fern plants
around.
It looked just wrong for the big hanging plants to be
dancing with the breeze and right beside it the wind chime just hung there
still.
I brought up an electric fan and aimed it at the fan. and It did give out its low soothing tones but not
as much as we hoped. Somehow having to
depend an electric fan took something
out of the pleasure of hearing the
chimes.
We decided to take it back.
The next day we carried it back to the bird seed store and
the owner was very understanding and gave us credit. He mentioned that the bars or pipes are not
suppose to move. It is the flat paddle
or sail hanging below that is suppose to move and ring the chimes. We said, the paddle or sail didn't work
either.
The owner pointed out the plate glass window to the sidewalk
in front of his store that he had all kinds of wind chimes and flags flying and
dancing in the wind. I told him that was
the west wind.
While we were there he called the manufacturer of the wind
chimes and told them our problem.
Whoever he talked to suggested we use a bigger paddle. They agreed
that the manufacturer was going to ship a larger paddle, or sail, to the
bird seed store owner, then when it comes in he will call us and we will buy
the chimes again, which I guess we agreed to, sort of.
As we left we noticed on the sidewalk the light flags and
paper streamers or whatever were doing
the flopping around in the wind but the one set of wind chimes similar to ours
was just sitting there, not moving or singing.
Will the new sail, or paddle, work? The Answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind.
