This statue of Senator Alexander Stephens Clay was dressed up for Halloween a bunch of years ago. He is even wearing a mask. Maybe the mask is symbolic for politician.
If I remember correctly, I took this picture about 25 to 30 years ago. I doubt if the position in this picture is politically correct. I don't know the protocal but for soldiers they are suppose to be facing their enemy.
The senator's replica is facing south, overlooking the playground. Presently he is on the west side of the park facing eastward towards the court house.
