MAD has made mincemeat out of a popular poem.
The WRECK OF THE HESPERUS by H.W. Longfellow has been violated. And it is a classic public domain kind of property - it belongs to the people, so to speak, so MAD didn't have to pay royalties for the use of it. It was illustrated by Wallace wood, under the guidance of editor Harvey Kurtzman, in
MAD #16.
