Elijah Petty's daughters
Daniel Webster Petty’s were Elijah Petty (1806-1881) and Letty Lewis (1809-1849). They had 5 children, all born in North Carolina, probably McDowell County. After Letty died Elijah married Sarah Parker (1818-1907) and they moved to Fannin County, Georgia, and had 7 children.
Elijah and his twin Elisha were born in Surry County, North Carolina, and also their 10 siblings, to the parents of Zachariah Petty (1761-c1834) and Nancy Dodson (1765-1811). More about them later.
Back to Elijah’s off-springs. Some of his off springs moved to Texas and Oklahoma and some moved Fort Mountain to Murray County.
Here are a few that made me do a double-take, or say WOW!:
William D. Petty, young CSA soldier
William D. Petty (1834 – 1917) was Elijah’s oldest son. He fought for the South in the Civil War. He was married three times. He was a civic leader in Murray County, being Postmaster in Cisco, Georgia, Census taker, and on the Murray County Board of Education.
What impressed me about him he could quote any part of the Bible, verse by verse, word by word. Also impressive was at Sunday School he was the first one there and got the stoves going before anybody else arrived. And it is said he loved to sing religious hymns. Although I have not read it, I think he was probably a very positive person.
William D. Petty & second wife
His daughter-in-law Eliza “Lizzie” Lackey Petty (1858-1899). Cause of Death: Train accident.

This obituary should have been included with Jim Petty’s family in the last “Who Do I Think I Am?” post but it slipped by me:

And Holbert Walker (1915-1937. Holbert was great grandson of Elijah Petty. His grandmother was Elijah’s daughter Mary Petty, that married William Peyton Walker.
Here is the Holbert’s brief account of the ending of his life which needs more details:
Hobert and another boy were carrying Lester (his younger brother) on a rail during what was called a (Sereande) to celebrate the marriage of Lester and Dean Tanner. An accident happened to Hobert that caused him to lose his life.
