SUNDAY FUNNIES - THE ALAMO!

(psssssttt! as usual, click on each picture to make it bigger, better, and readable)
I think just about everybody my age knows the story of The Alamo. We know the Mexican Army took possession of San Antonio 1836 and Texans and others defended the territory from The Alamo.

Why do we know so much about The Alamo compared to other historical events? Because as kids we liked Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier. We liked Davy in the Keelboat race against big Mike Fink and other adventures and we cried when he went down swinging at The Alamo.

I had two posts this past week about Cinco de Mayo, so this carries the Mexican theme on more step…. Or, I might say, “Speaking of Mexicans….”

Even though Mexico gained the some land because they won at the Alamo, it didn’t last. Texas the Lone Star and the American government regrouped and reclaimed it, but that is another story.

This story is from the EC Comicbook TWO-FISTED TALES number 11, written by editor Harvey Kurtzman and illustrated by his old high school chum and friend John Severin.

As usual, the EC war comic war story was historically accurate as possible, which includes the uniforms.
