Thursday Brown-Bagging in the Park
We went downtown Marietta for a brownbag lunch in the park to live music. That is what was the City of Marietta announced, Thursday would be a live mini-concert while people brought their lunches, or “brown bagging it” as they say.
About fifty years ago brown paper sacks had a completely different meaning when speaking of activities in the park.
Instead of brown bagging it on a park bench we decided not to rough it so much and eat inside at Tommy’s Sandwich Shop.
Tommy’s Sandwich Shop is where Groover Hardware used to be. Inside the shop looking around the corner I remembered the big rolls of linear things for sale: like ropes, chains, etc.
Tommy has the store decorated in Sailboat stuff. At first glance the ceiling looks like a canopy but looking again you can see it is an authentic sail. Also there are boat kind of things on the walls such as rudders, pictures of sailboats, etc.
While there thee Marietta policemen came in. One of them was a gun shooter trainer. A little guy named Billy asked him what type of bullets was the best. The trainer said in so many words, “Any bullet. They are all meant to do one thing.”
We walked over to the park. The whole place had Halloween scenes or beings, each was created by a different school or organization.
The concert time of 12:00 noon came and went. There was a sign up saying Thursday Brown Bag Concerts start at 12:00 Noon. Then, we saw another sign saying, “Today’s Brownbag program will start at 12:30.” (or something similar).
Then 12:30 came. No music. Instead a man on stage introduced himself as an educator at Kennesaw College. And the program for the day would be parts of the play ROMEO AND JULIET performed by students in his acting class. They did two scenes.
Not many people showed up; maybe a dozen, maybe one or two more. We all clapped.
He told us he hopped we enjoyed it enough to see the full length play at Kennesaw College next week.
I think what they did is called a teaser. If it is called Teaser, how come?
Remember the side-shows at the Carnivals? I think the strip shows also had “teasers”. There was a stage out front and the girls would priss out on the stage and with flirty eyes and a hint of flesh underneath their gowns beacon on the young men to gather in front of them and a smooth taker male would describe the dancers in all sorts of double meaning sexual innuendos and telling some young man on the front row to get his hand out of his pocket. Well, that was a teaser too.
A spokesperson for the Parks and Recreation got up and thanked us for attending and promised next Thursday would be a country singer. We'll believe it when we see it.
EXPLAIN GUANINE IN IT'S RELATION TO BROWN BAGGING, PLEASE
