This is last story in
MAD # 7, written by Harvey Kurtzman and illustrated by Wallace Wood. I think this story
SMILIN’ MELVIN was so typical for
MAD at the time…. the illustrations, the quick balloon popping punch lines, surprises, plots and a mockery of the real characters in
SMILING JACK.
Also note how different Wally Wood’s work compared to Will Elder and Jack Davis. Well, all three are different from each other, now that I brought it up. To me, Wood’s females in MAD always seem to sharp or pointed knees… and their faces had sharp lines – which is not a bad thing, it just points out his style.
