1865: Actor John Wilkes Booth shot President Abraham Lincoln at the Ford Theater in Washington, DC, in front of his wife Mary Todd, while they ere watching the play "OUR AMERICAN COUSIN".
Booth jumped from the balcony and broke his leg. That broken leg probably ended Booth's acting career.
Also, in 1912 on this day in history the Titanic struck an iceberg.
I went to Ford's Theater a few years ago, and now it has just re-opened after a renovation. I'd like to see it again.

ReplyDeleteWe stood outside of it about 20 years ago... it was closed to the public that day - renovations.
