On this day in history in 1988 televangelist Jimmy Swaggart was scorned by the Assemblies of God after it was made public he was caught with a prostitute.
He was ordered to stay off TV for a year but he was back on the air thumping his bible in three months.
Rules and punishment just don’t apply to the ones that think they are in the Holier than Thou class.
Religion, as in church, is a bunch of things. One of them is a business. And one of the goals is to see how much it can increase the congregation and the money it makes. Swaggart was good at that, anyway.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quote was when he told the cop why the prositute was in his car "The Lord told me it's flat none of your business." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Swaggart)
