More Fish Pictures!!!
Above - Beluga Whales. I remember in some old movies a dumb blond would call her boy friend, in a joking way - "You big Beluga!" No, wait! That was Polooka, as in Joe Palooka, the boxer in the comics... which has nothing to do with the above.
These are some postcards I bought on our visit to the Georgia Aquarium last week that I forgot about.
Notice I said Georgia Aquarium instead of Atlanta Aquarium. I honestly thought it was the Atlanta Aquarium until I saw this postcard then it hit me at once.
Wow! Live and learn, right?
I am just trying to squeeze some more mileage out of that visit, that's all.
Crown Nose Rays. I doubt if you hear them call each other "Crown Nose"
Whale Sharks
Love your fish pictures! The aquarium is a great addition to the Atlanta area. When we visited there a while back we walked across the street to the Olympic park, another nice place to visit. Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteYes, squeeze some more mileage and send more pictures.
ReplyDeleteI have a question you will probably know. Who was it who said "Shazaam" before Gomer Pyle used it and made it so common? I remember it was a superhero but can not recall which one.
Susan,
ReplyDeleteThank you - I bought the cards myself.
We visited Olympic Park about a week after the Olympics packed up and left town. I remember the bombing spot had a big shrine of cards and flowers.
By the way, earlier today I read Buddy's first Christmas newsletter. I really enjoyed it.
Si,
ReplyDeleteIt was Captain Marvel... well, that is not technically correct. Captain Marvel did not have to say SHAZAAM to become a super hero - he was there already.
It was the little crippled newspaper boy with a crutch. When he said SHAZAAM he instantly became Captain Marvel. I tried it too - it is not that easy.
By the way, each letter in SHAZAAM stands for something, I forgot what.
SHAZAAM:
ReplyDeleteSOLOMON- WISDOM
HERCULES - STRENGTH
ATLAS - STAMINA
ZEUS - POWER
ACHILLES - COURAGE
MERCURY - SPEED
-- now do you know another phrase that was initiated by Captain Marvel? (Two words that rhyme).
It's okay you called it the Atlanta Aquarium, that has kind of an alliterative rhythm to it. Most of the metropolitan area doesn't realize there's another Georgia far outside the perimeter.
Albany has an aquarium, too, right on the Flint River, which is just a trickle when it leaves Hapeville, and a real river when it reaches Bainbridge.
Cuz Jean,
ReplyDeleteThanks for that bit about SHAZAAM. I was about to dig out my Smithsonian Book of COMIC-BOOK COMICS that has a sampling of almost all comics - which I did anyway, just to give a name to what I was refering to and while at it I looked up what Billy the Crippled Boy said: Holy Moly!
I haven't heard from you in months! I am pleased to have you come by.
Yes, I heard or saw on maps that Bainbridge is very much water-country.
Than ks, ET. Knew you could do it. Capt. Marvel.
ReplyDeleteSolomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, Mercury
ps. Holy Moly, Batman.
ReplyDeleteGlad to be back, I've kept up with your blog, just failed to comment.
ReplyDeleteThere's a downstream group fighting the notion of damming the Flint upstream a ways to give Atlanta more water.
We sit atop the Floridan Aquifer, with lots of water underground. Rumor has it that our irrigation wells, which are numbered and have govt. installed devices on them to count how many gallons we pump out, will one day be used to pipe water uphill to Atlanta, instead of pouring water over the ground to irrigate crops.
Jean,
ReplyDeleteWell, if need be, I'm sure you will be a good neighbor and share your water with us northern Georgians (I'm ruling that any thing above Macon is considered north Georgia.... or is Perry the middle of Ga?)
Wrote a post about SHAZAM this morning. Thanks for the data, knew you could do it. And thanks for bringing back an important part of my education.
ReplyDeleteSi,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I could help.
By the way, I think billy the crippled newspaper boy last name was Batson.
