"once a cowboy always a cowboy" is what my old reunited friend David G, or as we used to call him "Baby Bird", said in his email when he sent me his picture taken the same day that I had my picture taken with Smiley Burnett, aka Frog Millhouse just outside the doors of the Strand Theater in Marietta.
The bottom picture is David some sixty-one or two years later taken last September at the Bell Boys Reunion.
Happy Trails!
Ran into David G at Johnny's BBQ in Powder Springs a couple of weeks ago and he turned me on to "Chicken Fat" blog..Thanks David..Jimmy W
ReplyDeleteJimmy,
ReplyDeleteI concur! Thanks David G. for passing along my blog address.
I have been to Johnny's BBQ several times. My aunt and uncle had their 50th anniversary there.
Each time I think of Johnny's I think of the time we went there and there was an electric train traveling around the inside perimeter of the wall at ceiling height.
So, Jimmy, do we know each other from the old days in Marietta? Give me a hint.. or send me an e-mail and tell me.
I grew up in Marietta Place, went to Pine Forest and Park Street and MHS class of '66. You are a few years older than me. Know the McBees, Hansens, D Northcutt, etc.
ReplyDeleteI would like to attend the Marietta Place reunion and the Bell Gang reunion, but always find out about it after the fact. Looking forward to the Varner's reunion next year.
Jimmy,
ReplyDeleteYeah, Jerry McBee - or as my father used to say, "Might-be anything" he knew Jerry's father.
And Harry and H.A. - they are as part of my childhood from about age 5 or 6 on up until after high school. I don't get to see often any more - Harry goes to funerals and funeral homes and so do I.
Yes, I think the upcoming Varner Reunion will be great - I wonder if Freddie the Carhop will be invited?
Paul Varner's daughter keeps up with my blog and she is looking forward to it also.
Hey, you met Smiley! Loved those old movies.
ReplyDeleteMommies, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys. After a few years in West-by-Gawd Texas, feel I have a little claim.
Si,
ReplyDeleteYou paid your dues - go ahead and say you are a cowboy.
Bush claims to be a Texan - but he is a transplant.
