The other day at Costco I saw a Mexican man with a straw hat – a cowboy straw hat - with the brim turned up above the ears on each side. The hat was frayed. It was a non pretentious hat. It was meant to keep the sun off him as much as possible as he worked.
I thought about getting me a straw hat like that – that way, I could pretend to be non-pretentious.
I don't understand why the sides are rolled up. That lets the sun onto your ears and the sides of your neck.
ReplyDeleteJudy,
ReplyDeleteI never thought about that. What you say makes sense. Maybe it is like that because that way, you can more easily slap the rear and of your horse--- I mean it is fashioned after cowboy hats - right?
But the kind I see of farm people working in fields around here - or used to see, that the brim comes down almost to your shoulders make more sense.
