Sope Creek Covered Bridge pictures

Pictures of the Soaks Creek Covered Bridge are rare.

The bridge was destroyed on Valentine's night, 1963, when my life-long friend Carol Joe Clayton had a head-on collision in the bridge. He was killed and the bridge was too.

While copying my mother-in-law's slides I came across the above pictures of the Soaks Creek bridge, when it was covered.

  1. Good Pics. The old erea of covered bridges is long gone. I am sorry to hear about your friend. I got to your blog via another blog titled "Imagine---", and thought since we shared a blogger friend, I would say hello.

  2. Gig,
Thank you for visiting. You have a neat looking blog also. When I get a chance I would like to go back and check it out more.
I am just a young dude. I am 1/5 of a score younger than you.
    Come back anytime, y'hear?

  4. Judy,
Yes they are. We still have one left in Cobb County.

  5. It looks smaller than the Concord Bridge - I haven't been though this one. It's sad about your friend...

I read there are about 10 covered bridges left in Ga. - but another report said 12. I'm guessing a few of them weren't protected and came down.

  6. Deborah,
Lets see... there is one near Cartersville in Uharlee (?) that I know of, and one near Helen that the movie "I'll Climb The Highest Mountain" was filmed at... and of course Cobb County has one on Concord Rd, which you took excellent pictures of - and that is all I can think of.
I bet they all are rotting and one day will be gone - replaced by new shiny steel and cement bridges - ugh!
