Everybody Loves a Parade - again!

click on any picture to make it huge.

We arrived in downtown Marietta for the 4th of July Parade a few minutes after 8am this morning... thinking we would be able to pick the best viewing spot....NOT!

There were hordes of people had already beat us to the prime viewing spots. Here, I have selected some of the pictures I taken today. Unfortunately, there were people all over the place, which got in the way of many of the photographs, either by hogging the view away from my subject, or being so darn close to me my camera automatically adjusted on them instead.

Why didn't all those troublemakers who messed up my pictures just stay home today? That was be a unique parade... 189 entries with 29 floats, on to parade in front of just Anna and I.

The below picture is after the parade at Glover Park. If you cllick on the picture you can see among all the people to the left Senator Clay's Statue, and dead ahead is the fountain.

  1. Great Pics! I was hoping that you were at the square today with your camera. I was on Roswell St., close to Roswell St Baptist Church. So the parade is covered pretty much. I'm going to link to your post after I get my pictures up later tonight - gonna go see the fireworks in a few minutes.

I've ate so much...and fixin to eat some more! lol

  2. Deborah,

I bet on Roswell St was an excellent place to be in. They were just staring out and still fresh and hyped up. By the time they got to us they were tired, sun baked, and probably irritable.

I thought Bill Dunaway looked like a slob and also it was funny that mortal enemies councilmen Goldstein and Van Pealberg were on top of the same fire truck.

  3. As long as Roswell Street Baptist Church is the starting point, I want to be in the area, because you're right, everyone is fresh. Last year, the Little General Cloggers put on a good show. It seems that the parade gets started right before the U-Haul. Today, the Sons of Confederate Veterans stopped in front of the U-Haul and one turned around - the next thing I know they're doing a gun salute. Jumped out of me skin and almost dropped my camera! I wasn't expecting that. lol And the pic that I have on my blog now, the women riding side, I thought that was cool. I have a pic of them from front, but it just didn't look the same as from the side.

The sun is a big problem in that area though. When the parade gets going the sun is rising and if you want to get a front shot you have to aim toward the east. On some of my pics it looks like you can *see* the heat.

But anyway, just got back home, it took an hour to get back and now I'm tired. I'll get those pics up tomorrow.

It was a good day - I hope that you and Anna had fun too.

  4. Deborah,
By the time the Kennesaw Mountain Cloggers got to us they were clogged out. They were sitting on the platform just enjoying the ride.
However, the old women twirlers were still going strong.
Anna about jumped out of her skin, the same as you, when the Sons of the Confederacy used their fire power, whatever it was... she said they were they only group that used loud gun noises.
I'm surprised the CSA boys didn't detour into the bar famous for its Curious George - Obama T-shirts, next to the U-Haul it dealer - I can't think of their name at the moment - Murphy's?

  5. Mulligan's. I never plan to get involved in that mess. I use to live near there a few years ago, and all I know is that Mulligan's and the ACLU have been going at it for a few years, mainly over the sign out front - concerning illegal immigration - it's been in the AJC a few times that I know of.

I rarely drink, and I don't hang at any bar. Alcohol is bad for the spirit.

Now why would CSA boys want to detour there? lol I know a few people who do, (northeners and a few seniors) but other than that, I don't know anybody who goes there.

No, they were good CSA boys today, I can account for that.

    They marched on.

  6. Mulligans! That's it!
I too rarely drink, but I try to make an exception on the 4th. I kept thinking I was going to up a can of beer, but just never got around to it.
But I think I drunk at least 4 Diet Cokes... maybe my tradition mind-set changed without telling me.

  7. A little late but....

I have 4 short videos - I made one into a Short Clip. It is of the Unicycles. Catch it when you get time, it's under the parade pics (same post)...:)
