A Tangled Web.

Our neighbor was the late Harold Killian (1919-2002). He died the day I was in the hospital with my heart attack. Harold was my 3rd cousin, once removed on my mother’s side. Our first common ancestors were William and Mary Poly Giles Killian.

Harold’s relationship comes in through my father’s side too. My great grandfather William A. Hunter (Trammell)’s only daughter was Arminda Jane "Nin" Hunter. She married Lewis Poor, and their daughter Lillian Poor married Charles Clifford Killian. Harold and Charlie Killian were first cousins, once removed. Through the Hunter line, he would is not related, just related to in-law Charlie Killian.

Still on the Hunter side, I have an aunt, Ruby. She is the widow of my uncle Jack.

Anna’s uncle by marriage is Lamar. Lamar is Ruby’s nephew.

Wait. I am not finish.

Back to the next door Killian family: Harold’s widow told me that that a few days ago their granddaughter’s husband’s grandmother’s sister died, and in the obituary was listed Ruby as a surviving sister.

Chart that!

    Et,
It is somewhat frightening that our family has so many internal links, but I guess when you have so many kids - over many generations - it is inevitable.

The funniest for me still after reading your info on Jason Hunter and realizing that my wife's grandparents live within a mile of Jason's main stomping grounds in Missouri. A little too close for comfort when it comes to marrying a cousin.

Of course I do know one of our cousins who while in college (away from home) met a girl that he dated once or twice and when he talked to his Dad about her said "where is she from, oh she is so and so's daughter, she's your distant cousin!" Stopped that relationship real fast.

  2. j3,
If I remember correctly, Anna and I are 4th cousins, once removed. We are both descended from Eugene Hargraves Tyson, although I (and you) are descended from his son Robert Cabel, Anna is descended from his daughter Fanny.
Speaking of something amazing, I found it amusing that your relative and an old friend of mine, Larry W. was sort of a pivot point between friends - Larry and I were related to the same people, because of your grandmother and his mother Lois were sisters, and then, he could do an "about face" and he and the late Larry Holcomb were related to the same people because of Howard and Cliff ... wait - Larry and Larry may have been blood kin. This gets confusing as that Ray Stevens song.

  3. J3,
    PS,
I forgot to throw in that Anna and I did not know were distant cousins until after we were married and I was doing genealogy research and Anna's mother was doing research and we bumped into each other, more or less.

    Eddie,
I told you the other day that you are number 2 in line on the Hunter side as being the oldest male blood line. I'm number 2 oldest male on my mothers side, with Larry being number 1. Every time I see him we look at each other and both say your next.
Oh yeah, nothing like kissing cousins.

  5. Johnny,
I think I would rather be number 30 or even better, 40.

    et,

Guess in our family its sort like on NEwhart - " Hi, I'm Larry, and this my cousin Larry."

You know, I haven't dug into it much, but Haley and I have always been convinced that our Mom and Dad are cousins - Mom's family is related to all of Cherokee Co., so that odds are pretty good. That explains a lot about my sister :)

  7. J3,
I could say something like that about my sister, but she reads this blog daily, and as I remember, she packs a pretty good wallop.

    et,
mine packs a wallop too, I just enjoy antagonizing her (that and I am 5 hours away from her, so she can't drive to my house and wallop me as easily as she used to).

  9. J3,
I remember when my oldest sister would wash the dishes I dried (before dishwashers) I kept one foot and leg posed ready to spring when I agitated her by popping her with a towel.

I have two sisters, two against one, that's not fair!

  11. Carolyn,
It is like if I took my right hand and grasped it and shook it I just might be shaking hands with a distant relative.
