The French Quarters, New Orleans postcard
The red brick building on the right looks very much like the place we stayed on our last trip to New Orleans with the boys.
The place we stayed was supposed to be the building Anne Rice had in mind when she wrote INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE.
It was kind of neat with a court yard with a big fountain. Our room was a two roomer with a balcony overlooking the street below. What we saw from that balcony deserves its own posting.
But, even though this building looks like the same building we stayed in I don’t think it is. The place we stayed there across the street on the left was a grammar school with a fence around it.
It could have fooled me.
And then again the redbrick building on the card looks like one on Bourbon Street that Pete Fountain played his clarinet cleverly called The Pete Fountain Club.

Trombonix,
ReplyDeleteYes, I like Dixieland. I like its brass sound, its fast pace, and it be-bop rhythm.
I looked at your blog and could not read the Portugal language, but the video clips were good.
Supposedly, there's all kind of tourist tours that one can take when visiting New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina devastated the city. Luckily, much history will continue to be preserved since the French Quarter and Garden District didn't get flooded.
ReplyDeleteSome of the city cemeteries were flooded (according to the papers). I wonder if voo-doo queen Marie Devoe's grave is ok...
New Orleans is the most ethnic and cultural mixed city in the south. One day, when it's back on it's feet, I would like to visit there.
Don't forget to tell us what you and Anna saw from the balcony! ...:)
Deborah,
ReplyDeleteWe took a trolley through the Garden District to get to the New Orleans Zoo. Nope, the street car wasn't named Desiree.
Our view from the balcony will be coming up.
