Ridleys at Calvard School in Murray Co., Ga
Calvard School, Murray County, Georgia, 1913.
Notice, again, how the formation of the students are a row one sex, then the next row is the other sex?
For every male row there is a boy with the surname Ridley. Ridley was my grandmother’s surname. The had a first cousin in every male row. By the time this picture was taken she was married.
The last row also has Irwin Petty (3rd from left), my grandfather’s brother. Along that time Irwin’s brothers had to hold him down while his first cousin Doctor Willis Garrett cut off his frostbit toes.
The second row has all females except for the male teacher on the far left. The teacher was Melvin Ridley who died the next year in 1914. His cemetery marker told that he lived from 1886 to 1914 for a sum of 28 years. That is too young to die.
Of course it is. Did he die from pneumonia?
ReplyDeleteJudy,
ReplyDeleteI don't know what he died of.
