Ed, I have police chief blood in my...my brother was the chief of police in a small mississippi town...he's now a constable, which is an elected position. My brother is the consumate politician. he's perfect, right down to that autographed pic of our "commander in chief" to whom my brother has donated money on a regular basis...nice...
Well, other than who he picks for his hero, I think his job as Police Chief or/or constable is a thankless, but honorable job. We need more people willing to protect the people.
Judy, I remember Daddy fired a cop one time for figting and bullying blacks and he got a job as manager of The Strand Theater and later was the manager of The Realto Theater in Atlanta, which paid more than being a cop. His forced career changed for being bad was good for him.
It was good for my uncle too, Eddie. He went to school to become an electrician, opened his own company, earned the title "master electrician" and made more money than he ever could as a cop.
I think Bird's brother is one of two Republicans in the entire country i would actually vote for (the other is a guy i know from work). Blood really is thicker than water i guess.
Judy, I almost makes me wish the post office fired me long ago.... but with my luck, if that happened it would have probably have been my last job. Steve, I vote for a couple of local Republicans that I know or grew up with, and with a cousin Republican running for commissioner I was even a volunteer worker for his election - but, I must admit, I only did it for the tee-shirt that said, "HUNTER IS OUR MAN"... everybody has a price.
Well, fortunately for my brother, the job of constable is somehow set up so that he only gets paid for the work he does. In other words, the more warrants he serves, the more people he is able to actually LOCATE to serve, the more money he makes. I swear, I think he might arrest his own mother for a buck...
Once, when he was just the regular po-po, my brother arrested a guy for possession of some kind of illegal narcotic...I think "mary J" was the crime...anyway, after checking ID, etc. my brother realized this guy was a childhood friend that we'd grown up with. So, while he's pushing him into the back of the cage-car, my brother's making small talk like, "how's your mamma and them?" and "so, whatcha been up to since HS?" as if THAT answer wasn't obvious...
i guess it was nice that he was friendly while busting him but it seemed just to add insult to injury. I have little doubt that my brother probably consumed a little of that "mary j" with this guy back in the day...

ReplyDeleteI had an uncle who was a policeman back in the 30's and 40's, but he got canned for fighting, I think...LOL

ReplyDeleteBird,
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like something I would do. Enforce the law, then ask "Whatcha been up to?"

ReplyDeleteI know I made a comment to this, but where is it?
ReplyDeleteI think I did.... but what?
