Speaking of old cars and Uncle Will. Here is his sister, Octavia "Tade" with her real old car.... and incidentally, that is her married name Carr.
Records show she married E.G. Carr. When I was a preteen I used use her big old house as a pickup point for either my sister or father. She lived only a block from Acworth Beach, which was a fun place to go and hangout.
Her husband died before I met him and they had no children. I remember her as an old snoot who was very judgmental but also very accommodating.
Ha! Judgmental AND accomodating? Doesn't seem like you would find those two traits in the same person.
ReplyDeleteYes, the way she squinted her eyes and frown you just felt she didn't approve of some of your actions. Like hanging out at the the beach all day with your parents not near-by. Indeed!
ReplyDeleteBut, at the same time, pouring you a glass of lemonade while you are waiting for somebody to pick you up.
Eddie, we have no rentals in our neighborhood, but some of the residents either don't have the $$ to hire it done, or have lost the need to care for their property. It used to be a showplace, with every yard looking like it could be in a magazine, mine included. Now I am lucky if I have even one flower blooming!
ReplyDeleteJudy,
ReplyDeleteI am guily of letting little trees, or yearlings, pop up. I spent a couple of hours the other day pulling those little things up. We paid good money for a landscaping crew to come out two years ago and make little islands with pinestraw and things like that. It looked good for a while... I'm just not a yard person. I keep the grass cut and that is about it. Anna has to see what is going wrong and call my attention to it before I do anything.
Time to call the landscapers again for another fix.
But maybe not this year, as we are having the addition added, which will mean trucks, cement trucks, and other various combos of workers, which is bound to leave the yard a mess.
Of course I can always use the excuse that no matter how good I can get our house looking, it will look no better than the neighborhood it is in - across the street is a man in the junk car and boat business. He repairs them and sometimes buys an old boat and fixes it up. Two years ago I counted six junky looking boats in his front yard.
But I can't be concerned about his yard, my side is enough to handle.
